World Archetypes


Two sides in conflict


War torn worlds is a game archetype which involves who sides permanently in conflict. This type of game world requires large amounts of creativity and a form of history. Often times real historical events are used in these type of games.


There are many games which follow these types such as:

- Undertale

-Garden Warfare




Perfect Utopia


Perfect Utopia is a world were everything is peaceful until conflict breaks the world. A world where Utopia is present tends to start off as peaceful and war less, however peace in this world breaks soon as conflict happens through an individual person or a disaster. Perfect Utopia worlds tend to be set in the future and mostly follow fantasy.


Such games that follow this type of worlds lack a form of history due to a lack evidence that show events like this happening.



Perfect Utopia examples:

- Zelda, Breath of the wild

- Genshin Impact

- Pokemon



Fallen Dystopia


A fallen Dystopia world is a world where society has crumbled and humanity has fallen. Many of these worlds typically involves the destruction of humanity but sometimes it could be the whole world altogether. These types of world are unique and requires large amounts of creativity. Sometimes real historical events are used such as destruction by War.


What makes these worlds so intriguing is the fact that the world-building is highly creative.



There are many examples of fallen dystopia worlds however only a few of them truly standout.

- Fallout 76

-Last of us

-Dead Rising

What makes these games stand out is the fact that real historical events where used in these games while also large amounts of fantasy where used as well.




New Born World


A new born world is a world where everything begins when the player starts the game. These worlds have no history as they rely on the person who is playing the game to make history. A new born world tends to follow a gameplay of freedom as the players can do whatever they want. What makes these types of worlds so unique is that it is like a blank canvas which has endless room for creativity.




New born worlds is a popular gameplay due to its high storage of creativity.

There are many examples of new born worlds.

- Minecraft

- Terraira

- Forest





Changing World


The changing world is a game style where the world is changing due to conflict. This is where the main character of the game comes in and we see how he/her adapts to the change. Most of these games take place in modern day history and mostly shows some sort of decease or war changing the world. Changing worlds tend to be based on modern day society as it is more relatable to us people.

- The walking Dead

-Dying light





Dying world


These games tend to have a lot of fantasy and history involved. A dying world is a world which is dying and it is the players responsibility to save the world or at least make in better. Dying worlds tend to be set in the future on near the medieval times.





Examples of Dying worlds:

- Metro exodus

- Dark soul 3

- Elden ring




Newly discovered worlds


Newly discovered worlds is a world which was never found until now. These games tend to be fantasy related and mostly follow the theme 'discover'.





Examples of Newly Discovered worlds

- Zelda, breath of the wild

- No mans land

- Made in abyss, Binary star falling into darkness




Destroyed world


A destroyed world is a game world where the world has been completely destroyed beyond recondition and nature has covered earth. These games don't tend to follow any kinds of history.


Examples of these games may be:

- forest

-days gone
