3D Forms
Polygonal: Polygonal are a form of shapes used in 3D modelling. The shapes included in polygonal modelling are normally triangles and polygons, This type of modelling is used for smaller and more detailed objects. Such as a face.
Primitive Modelling: Primitive modelling is a form of modelling which uses Primitive shapes which are provided in 3D programs. The primitives are Cube, Cylinder, Sphere and cones. The primitives are first used as building block to create a simple shape then details are soon added on. To make a tree trunk you have to start with a cylinder.
Nurbs: Nurbs is a modelling technique which uses 3D surfaces and shapes to create smooth precise models. The word NURBS is a short term for Non-Uniform Rational B- Splines. Nurbs modelling allows 3D shapes to be moved around without losing any quality's therefore it is used to create organic shapes.
Box modelling: Box modelling is the used of the primitives Cubes and boxes to create a base structure for the models. The simple structure is soon manipulated and refined into a complex shape.
Extrusion: Extrusion modelling is a form of 3D Modelling which involved taking a 2D picture and bring it into a 3 dimensional field. This is by extruding the shape by pulling it out and stretching it in order to add depth. This type of modelling is one of the main types of modelling which is supported by all 3D platforms.
Edge and Contour Modelling: Edge and contour modelling is a form of modelling which uses edges and contours to create smooth shapes and models. Instead of starting with shapes, this modelling starts by manipulating the edges and contours to form an outline and a structure. This is used in creating complex architectural designs.
Procedural modelling: Procedural modelling is a used to create large amounts of complex scenes in short amounts of time. This is preformed by the artist creating a set of rules for the computer to generate complex models and scenes.
Digital sculpting: digital sculpting is a unique form of sculpting/modelling which involves traditional sculpting in a digital background. This type of modelling is used for character designs which require high amounts of details.
Image based modelling: Image based modelling is a form of modelling which is used to create backgrounds and objects based of photographs. The artist uses the computer to generate a 3D model from a photograph or image. This type of modelling is used as a time saver.
I.D scanning: ID scanning is a computer based technique which involves scanning a object or a individual to then generate a 3D model. This happens by the computer scanning using imagery.
